Open Competition

Description: Whether your goal is to qualify in Open or it's to win the class, understanding the exercises and how to teach them is a great place to start. Even if you already have a CDX, this class will be great for filling holes in your foundation and will teach your dog the precision and work ethic necessary to achieve a UDX or OTCh. This class will prioritize breaking down the exercises into manageable pieces. As your dog's understanding and proficiency improves, we will start sequencing these elements together into the exercises. This class can be entered in combination with the Utility class with one dog or with multiple dogs. Prerequisite: Dogs must be under control around other dogs on and off leash. Dogs must be able to eat treats and/or play with toys (or the handler) in a busy class environment. The dogs need to be capable of left pivots with the handler (moving with the handler in heel position without being lured or corrected in position). This class is for people who want to compete in competition obedience. We will use platforms so your dog will get the most out of class if they are comfortable sitting on a platform. Needed equipment: a platform fitted to your dog's width and a properly sized dumbbell.
